Mildly concussed girl summer
This certainly is going to ruin the tour. Welcome back to the GRIEF AND MEDIA PROJECT!
I regret to inform you all that I got a concussion. It seems only fitting to do a newsletter announcement announcing such. My philosophy on injuries is if it’s my problem, I hope to make it everyone else’s problem too—for example, when I got my gum surgery in 2019, I put it on my Hinge profile. To me, this is just par for the healing course.
As a result, the podcast that was supposed to come last Thursday will actually be coming this Thursday. And I will not be doing this week’s This Week in Grief and Media. In its place, here are some FAQs that I think you should be asking if you’re not already.
What happened?
On Wednesday, I was coming home after grocery shopping. I unlocked the front door, then I bent down to pick up the groceries, and my head completely bonked the railing in front of our apartment. Husband of GRIEF AND MEDIA PROJECT said it sounded like a loud cartoon head bonking. I thought I would have one of those cartoon bumps on my head as well, but it was ultimately more human-like.
I did not go to the hospital because I hate doing that—I didn’t go for three days after breaking my foot a few years ago—but when my head was in bad pain as a passenger in the car when we went to get a cute little iced coffee Friday, I knew with 99.999 percent certainty it’s a concussion.
Am I okay?
No! I’m not. Going to get a cute little iced coffee is my favorite thing to do, and I can’t do that at this time. Also it hurts to write this. Also I’m bored. What’s a hobby that doesn’t require using my computer or my brain, or involve reading or drinking iced coffee? I’m not too sure.
What have I been watching?
They say to avoid screen time or whatever, but the TV doesn’t hurt my head so I think I’m good according to random users on Reddit. <3 I have been keeping up with Love Island USA as always, and rewatching old seasons of Love Island UK (particularly season five) to get my fix in between episodes. (TWO DAYS. Iykyk.)
Husband of GRIEF AND MEDIA PROJECT and I watched a full season of a Freeform show called Cruel Summer and let me tell you, that shit was crazy. It’s a quintessential Freeform show, and you have no idea who is lying throughout the series. But one thing I’ll say, and this isn’t a spoiler but more of a warning, the character Jeannette is soooo weird. Dabbling in a Freeform show again is such an unmatched thrill, and as a result, I think I may finally watch Pretty Little Liars. New hobby perhaps?
What about my Duolingo streak?
We are thankful for the Streak Freezes™ everyday—by the grace of god my 197-day streak is still going strong. I did my lesson this morning, but this particular question is the point where my head started hurting.
Is there anything you can do to help?
Yes, there is. Thank you for asking. You need to watch Love Island USA and vote for JaNa when the public vote opens this week. I’m serious.
